This is the largest hillfort in Dorset. The ramparts of the Iron Age fort were reused by the Roman army. Excavations of the barrack blocks revealed that a legion of 600 men and a cavalry unit of 250 were garrisoned here. A Scheduled Monument, 1002678. The site has been identified as Roman Dunum.
